Harrison Rotary
Club - Meeting Report |
 |
 |
|
The last two weeks have been quite hectic
preparing for the Centennial District Conference and consequently we are
combining both meeting events in this report.
Our last two presentations were given by Olympic Gold medal fencing winner Jeff
Bukantz on April 20th and New York State Assemblyman Adam Bradley on April 27th.
A video of each presentation will be made available as soon as possible for
those interested in viewing the details of these two wonderful programs. We are
slowly approaching a new Rotary year which will begin in July when our newly
trained president Sergio Brasesco takes the helm. In preparation of this event
we are working to finalize committee assignments and responsibilities for each
member for the 2005-2006 Rotary year. A board meeting will be announced prior to
our last Club assembly on May 25th at which time we will document the
accomplishments of our Centennial year as well as setting Goals for our upcoming
year. Several celebration events still remain at the district level for the
culmination of our centennial year as well as the RI Centennial convention in
Chicago in mid June. Everyone is encouraged to attend these remaining year end
events including our own Centennial project which is scheduled to be completed
on "Memorial Day" in Harrison (the installation of two park benches in "Ma Riis
Memorial Park"). The Installation Dinner for our new president is being
scheduled for June 30th at Emilio's restaurant. Full details will be distributed
through formal invitation. Stay tuned for more information on these important
events.

Paul Harris Fellows
Our Rotary Club this year produced three Paul Harris Fellows. (President
John, Vinny Graziano and Wendy Dubbs) A special exception was made for Vinny, he
received a "Phil Harris" award in honor of his favorite Comedian. All in all the
Paul Harris luncheon was a great success. Members attended a packed house at the
White Plains Crown Plaza Hotel where the keynote speaker was Westchester county District Attorney
Jeanine Pirro. She gave an excellent presentation on crime
prevention programs and offered Rotary clubs in the district an opportunity to participate in a
new crime prevention program for seniors called operation "peep hole"
Centennial Awards
The Harrison Rotary club received several awards at the Centennial Brunch.
DG Don Lee and PDG & RI president's representative Tomas Thorfinnson presented
President John with an RI presidential Citation for demonstrating excellence and
exceptional achievement through continued efforts in Club, Vocational, Community
and International service.
Additionally The Rotary club of Harrison received a District Governor's Citation
for it's Centennial project to install park benches in the town of Harrison "Ma
Riis Memorial Park" The benches are engraved with the Rotary Centennial logo and
include a dedication to "All" the men and women that have served our country
through the armed forces.
A musical interlude was provided during the
Centennial Awards Brunch by Harrison High School junior Jamie Alimorad,
who recently stared in the HHS production of "Le Miserables". Rotarians
delighted in his oratory excellence and Jamie's mother was seen
recording the event.
Our own Michael Oppici received an award for his commitment to service In
recognition of more than 25 years of dedicated Rotary Membership. This award
recognizes members with deep appreciation for the outstanding efforts and
commitments to service as a Rotarian. Mike was not present for the award due to
a recent hospitalization therefore Pres. John accepted the award on his
behalf. We wish Mike a speedy recovery, and hope that this will
some how brighten his outlook during the process of his recovery.
In memory of Past-President Bernard Brieter
A memorial honoring the memory of Deceased Rotarians in 2004-2005 was held at
the Centennial breakfast, Sunday May 01, 2005. Past President Bernard Brieter of
our Harrison Rotary club who passed away late last Summer was among those
listed. Rotarians observed a moment of silence as prayers and poems for the
departed where administered by moderators Glen Nygreen & Ted Nygreen.

Dumb Drunk
A guy walks into a bar and he orders a whiskey. He
sits down and just before he takes a sip of his whiskey a guy runs
in and says, “Bill! Your house burnt down!”
So he runs outside but then he thinks, “I don't have a house.” So he
goes back into the bar and takes a sip of his whiskey.
Another guy runs in and says, “Bill! Your dad died!”
And so he runs out of the bar, gets on his horse and rides a little
ways but then thinks, “I don't have a dad.”
So he goes back into the bar and drinks almost all of his whiskey
when another guy runs in and says, “Bill! You won the lottery!”
So he runs out, gets on his horse and rides all the way to the bank
but then thinks, “My name's not Bill.”
